Nestled
among large oaks and weeping willows off State Road 44 in DeLand, 3/4
mile east of the St. Johns River access, lies J.C.'s Lobster Pot, where
owners Megan Weir and D.J. Campbell have been partners since 1991.
The restaurant's slogan "We're not fine dining, we're just darn
good eatin'," originated years ago during a discussion about upscaling
J.C.'s image. It was decided that the predominately local, modest restaurant
with a family atmosphere would remain the same.
A meal starts with appetizers such as oysters rockefeller, clams casino,
gator tail, conch fritters, oysters or clams. Entrees include Florida
lobster (the house specialty) and Maine lobster (flown in fresh daily
from Bar Harbor), seafood platters, prime rib, filet mignon, strip steaks,
chicken and Danish baby back ribs. Fresh fish specials are offered daily
with catfish, sea scallops and rock shrimp. J.C.'s signature specialty
is "Coquille St. J.C.'s" (sorry, the recipe is a secret).
Entrees are served with fish chowder, salad or slaw and choice of potato
or stuffed mushrooms and family-recipe hushpuppies. The meal is topped
off with a piece of pie, ice cream or the dessert of the month.
